Sustainable Shopfitting
How Alclad Reduces Waste and Powers Its Factory with Offcuts
In an industry where speed, quality, and precision are non-negotiable, it’s easy to overlook what’s happening behind the scenes — especially when it comes to sustainability. At Alclad Shopfitters, making beautifully built spaces goes hand in hand with building a better future.
With more than 50 years in the business and over 16,000 stores installed across 23 countries, Alclad has always been about doing things properly. That philosophy now extends beyond just fit and finish — it’s about reducing impact, rethinking waste, and running a smarter, greener operation.
Green Goals, Real Results
Over time Alclad has made substantial investments into its production line, replacing energy-hungry systems with more efficient, environmentally conscious technology. The focus: two major upgrades — the drying tunnel and extraction system. By replacing outdated motors with modern inverter-driven models, Alclad achieved further reductions in both energy demand and usage.
Waste Not, Warm Everything
It’s not just about consuming less — it’s about reusing what’s already there. The by-product of Alclad’s milling process — sawdust — is now collected and used to fire the very boilers that heat the drying tunnel. That same heat is also repurposed to warm the factory floor during winter, cutting the need for additional heating systems.
It’s a loop that makes sense environmentally, operationally, and economically.
What It All Means
This isn’t just a sustainability story. It’s a practical demonstration of how forward-thinking investment, paired with decades of manufacturing expertise, can result in real impact, including:
Reduced fossil fuel dependency
Smarter energy consumption
Closed-loop waste systems
Consistent performance improvements
And it's just one part of a larger picture: Alclad continues to invest in LED lighting, recycled materials like Xanita board, and partners with responsible suppliers like PG Bison, who use renewable timber-growing techniques.
The Bottom Line
Sustainability isn’t a sideline for us, it’s built into every decision. From office furniture to flagship retail environments, every fit-out is backed by systems that consider both performance and the planet.
As clients increasingly seek out partners who align with their own sustainability goals, Alclad’s leadership in this space is more relevant than ever.
